Madonna of the Rocks [ala DaVinci]

This abstract comes from a painting of Leonard DaVinci entitled "The Madonna of the Rocks", he painted several of these and my painting is based on the one in London. I like the floating effect as though you are up high looking down upon the bottom plane

This is the 3rd finished painting in this series. With all of these paintings I've tried to keep the basic colors down to 3 or 4, in this case I used quin gold, iridescent russet and violet with a little touch of french ultramarine blue. I love color and it's really exciting to see how many different tones and hues you can make from such a small base. This painting I hope shows a bruegelesque feeling of the closeness of buildings and the claustrophobic nearness of people's lives.
